How to make speed training exercises more interesting?

Many athletes feel bored due to endless repetitions of speed training exercises. This boredom develops lack of enthusiasm and concentration that adversely affects the results of ongoing speed training. This problem of getting bore with routine exercises can be handled easily. Following are some easy to do tips that will help you to make speed training exercises more exciting. Try to run at faster speed than your usual speed on slightly downward slopes. Two or three feet drop on every 90 feet span is ideal. These sloppy rambles will increase your running speed. The improvement may be upto 15 %. Though, use of sloppy surface for running practice increases your speed significantly but it changes your running mechanics too because it is difficult to apply the same running habits while running on a flat surface. It is better to do sloppy running under the monitoring of a guide. Adding some competitive short duration games like mini-soccer, capture the flag, football and hurdle race etc to speed training procedure makes the entire training program more interesting and exciting. These short duration games (15 to 20 minutes) should be played after the warm-up session. Change in training place and time also helps to eliminate boredom. You can do your speed exercises in different part of the same ground. Try to do speed exercises with your friends. This will help you to follow the instructions of your coaches. Seeing the performance of your friends, you will easily learn to apply the techniques. To start with ‘reaction session’ is also a good concept. Regular change in running tracks also makes the speed training session interesting. Prefer to run on shorter distances than the competitive distances. Short runs teach you to apply the running techniques instantly. Besides this, your coach will also get more chances to evaluate your performance. At the end of each training session, don’t forget to perform relaxing exercises.
